Sample-Studios is one of Ireland?s largest artist studios. At
Sample-Studios, we launch, support and sustain creative careers and
practices in Cork. We provide affordable and quality studios for over

premises in Churchfield and present an ambitious programme of public
exhibitions and events in The Lord Mayor?s Pavilion and sites

residency programmes including Graduate Studio and Curatorial
Residencies and the Radical Institute at Studios of Sanctuary
Residencies for socially engaged artists from an asylum seeker,
refugee or migrant background. Sample-Studios delivers a year-round
programme of professional development workshops and events for its
members, in support of their artistic practices. We engage the
community through five education and outreach programmes, including
the Cork Creative Careers Programme, the Cork Young Curators and
Critics Programme and PhotoGo Community Photography Programme.
We now seek a dynamic and creative individual for the temporary fixed
term position of Acting Artistic Director for a 6 month maternity
leave cover contract.
JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Artistic Director of Sample-Studios
EMPLOYER: Sample-Studios CLG.
PLACE OF WORK: Sample-Studios, John F Connolly Road, Churchfield, Cork
REPORTS TO: Sample-Studios Board of Directors
DURATION: Fixed Term Contract, 6 months August **Apply on the

HOUR OF WORK: 4 days per week, **Apply on the website** hours per
week. Some evening and weekend work required.
Reporting to the volunteer Board of Directors, and overseeing the
team, the Acting Artistic Director is a senior position with
responsibility for the efficient administration and management of all
aspects of the organisation, including studio management, member
support, provision of our exhibitions, education and professional
development programmes, governance compliance, policy implementation,
partnership management, documentation and reporting.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* The Acting Artistic Director is required to do the following:
* Act as spokesperson and advocate for the Sample-Studios
* Represent Sample-Studios at stakeholder meetings, conferences and
delegations.
* Develop relationships with local, national and international arts
organisations, partners and funders.
* Ensuring all policies - financial, health and safety, child
protection, vulnerable adult protection, data protection etc. - are
relevant, up to date and implemented.
* Prepare Board Papers providing up to date information to enable
the Board to make considered decisions about policy, finance and
systems at monthly Board Meetings and Bi Monthly Finance, HR and
Governance Subcommittee meetings.
* Manage and supervise Sample-Studios team
* Maintain a safe environment for members, staff, volunteers and the
public.
* Ensuring insurance policies are in order and that the company
meets its legal and financial obligations.
* Manage studio occupancy including processing membership
applications and membership inductions
* Ensure membership contracts are administered and members adhere to
code of conduct, health & safety policies, rules and regulations.
* Apply for funding from Cork City Council in a timely manner in
November **Apply on the website** and ensure all funding conditions of
our Arts Council, Cork City Council, Creative Ireland and Community
Foundation of Ireland funding arrangements are met.
* Maintain existing and develop new relationships with funding
bodies, and meet reporting requirements.
* Deliver all the organisations marketing and communications
activity, including maintaining the website, social media platforms,
monthly newsletters, weekly members updates and daily email queries.
* Deliver Sample-Studios? professional development programme
including liaising with tutors, managing bookings and ensuring the
smooth running of online and in person events.
* Oversee that the venues and its facilities are maintained in
excellent condition. Support the Facilities Coordinator in their role
in maintaining sites in excellent condition and arranging for
maintenance works to be carried out when necessary.
* Oversee that the education programmes are delivered, including
liaising with venues, tutors, participants, funders and partners.
Support the Programme Coordinator in administering the Young Curators
and Critics Programme from September-November **Apply on the

* Oversee that the exhibitions programmes is delivered, including 8
exhibitions in The Lord Mayor?s Pavilion and St. Luke?s Crypt.
Support the Programme Coordinator and Facilities Coordinator in
ensuring the administrative, technical, funding, marketing and
invigilation requirements of each exhibition are delivered and act as
a key point of contact for exhibiting artists.
The successful candidate must have a demonstrated commitment to the
arts and will work closely with local and national state agencies,
partners and stakeholders. The ideal candidate must have excellent
organisation and administrative skills, particularly relevant to the
arts. Practical experience in project management and managing teams is
essential.
THE ACTING ARTISTIC DIRECTOR WOULD HAVE THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE AND
QUALIFICATIONS:

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Excellent administrative and organisational skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Excellent digital skills, including experience of managing a
website
* Ability to multitask in a fast-paced and deadline orientated
environment
* Strong leadership skills
* Experience of managing teams
* Very good knowledge of contemporary arts, both in Ireland and
internationally
* Third level qualification in a relevant arts discipline
* Previous experience in an arts management position
_Desirable:_
* Experience of working with organisational trustees
* Experience of working with a charity and supporting governance
compliance
* Experience of drafting and implementing policies
* An accredited qualification in project management.
* Professional network within the arts in Cork
* Strong advocacy skills
